Gakuyu-ini is a small factory located in central Kenya. The factory has 1,600 farmers working towards producing the highest scoring lots in the region. The red, fertile alluvial soil plays a big role in the cup quality, bringing about a distinct juiciness of Kenyan AB’s. AB coffees are that of a smaller size of seed than that of the Kenyan AA grade. This can bring about darker fruits, layered acidity and at times, less of that tomato/wine-like character that AA’s carry. In the cup, we found red berry and cherry sensibilities, a rounded mouthfeel, complex fruited texture with a long citrus finish. Red currant, ripe raspberry, rum cherry, campari, cinnamon, bakers chocolate, candied ginger were a few notes. Gakuyu-ini is overall, a super clean cup.
